The new Ford Bronco Sport at Tim Ford’s North Georgia Ford in Mineral Bluff GA has already made quite an impression. We love showing people how capable this compact SUV is no matter what surface it's traveling on. The new Bronco Sport has a unique squared-off design that creates a surprising amount of room inside. All-wheel drive is standard so this is a legit off-road vehicle that also has good on-road manners when you're back in civilization.

Trim levels

The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport gives you a choice of four different trims:

  • Base
  • Big Bend
  • Outer Banks
  • Badlands

It's worth noting that the top-tier Badlands is the baddest off-road option of all with its 245-horsepower turbo-four engine along with a beefed-up all-wheel drive system. If you invest in the Badlands, you’ll get a lifted suspension and enhanced dampers that will be very helpful when you're taking on tough terrain. Other upgraded equipment in the Badlands include all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels and extra ground clearance.

Engines and performance

The Bronco Sport is based on the same platform used by the Ford Escape crossover and any model you choose will come with all-wheel drive. The base has a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that delivers 181 horsepower. The 2.0-liter turbo-four-cylinder is what you'll be driving in the Badlands edition, and you’ll be running with 245 horsepower. Also part of the Badlands is a twin-clutch rear-drive unit that comes with a differential lock.

Fuel economy

As you'd expect, the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport’s three-cylinder engine does better in the gas mileage department. It can give you 25 MPG on city streets and 28 MPG when you're on highways around Blue Ridge and Dawsonville, GA. Surprisingly enough, the editors at Car and Driver tested the base engine on their own fuel economy route and got an amazing 33 MPG/highway. The four-cylinder gets up to 26 MPG on highways.

The interior

This smaller cousin of the Ford Bronco has a wheelbase that’s a bit shorter than a Ford Escape but still provides reasonable legroom in the rear seat. Because the roof line rises in the rear – in keeping with the squared-off design – there’s extra headroom back there and enough space for two mountain bikes. You can equip the cargo hold with an optional slide-out table that's usable as a workspace and Badlands comes with rubberized flooring.

Infotainment technology

While some SUVs start with a 7.0-inch touch screen – or even smaller – the Ford Bronco Sport gives you an 8.0-inch display no matter what model you choose. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are two other features you get in every model. Optional upgrades include SiriusXM satellite radio and a premium Bang and Olufsen stereo system, something you'll appreciate on road trips far from Blairsville or Ellijay, GA.
